About

I have been beading and designing my own jewelry since childhood, and in 2003 I discovered the joys of designing my own beads in the form of lampwork and the addictive properties of molten glass. Most of my technique has been self taught thru experimentation and lots of reading. I started with a small MAPP gas torch in the basement of our log cabin. Then in the fall of 2004 I had an eye opening workshop with Carol Schreiber at Human Hand Gallery in Ferrisburg, Vermont. It was shortly thereafter that I made the leap and bought a oxygen and propane torch. Most recently I attended a workshop at the Corning Musuem of Glass with lampwork artist Jen Zitkov.

I live in Vermont with my husband (who built me this awesome site and takes great photographs!) and our dog Ginger. I am a western Pennsylvania native, Penn State graduate, registered landscape architect (my day job), novice snowboarder (what’s a girl in Vermont to do?), and when the bugs aren’t biting – an avid gardener.

About Lampworking

Ginger the DogMadelyn flames all of her glass beads at her home studio using an oxygen/propane minor burner and Effetre (Morreti) and Vetrofond Italian glass. Lampworking (or Flameworking) is the technique of melting and forming rods of glass in a flame. All beads are kiln annealed. To learn more about lampworking click here to visit Wikipedia. This is Ginger, she’s a spunky American Staffordshire Terrier who keeps my toes warm.
